Where next for intranet-in-a-box products?

It hasn’t always been easy to build an intranet within SharePoint and because of that many Microsoft partners have released ready-made intranet add-ons to SharePoint. Microsoft has now demonstrated a commitment to on-going improvements especially in user experience. But what is left for the intranet vendors now. ClearBox has asked the vendors about that question.

Digital Workplace

Global digital workplaces need a language strategy

Truly global digital workplaces span continents and countries and their workforce are divided across many business divisions and roles. A big challenge is the language policy. English is often the default ‘working language’ but the day-to-day interactions of staff in local business units can be very different. We need to have a language strategy to make sure that we have a success.

Information Architecture

Information architecture: still vital to digital design

Over the years, the most neglected, and yet most essential, area of digital design has been information architecture.

Presentations for website designs were made to senior management. One presentation was based on data. It had carefully analyzed customer behavior and focused particularly on the navigation structure and wording. But it didn’t have that polished graphical look. The second presentation was quite beautiful to look at but the creators used no customer data to create their design. They copied the old navigation, while focusing on eye-catching graphics. Unfortunately, senior management went for the eye-catching design. In 2017, it is indeed frustrating that many in senior management still want brochures instead of effective digital designs.
